BILL FREEHAN
LEGENDS 1964 – 1976
Generally regarded
as the greatest catcher in the CKL’s first decade, Bill Freehan
was the spark plug for the Legends dynasty of the late 60s and early 70s. He
caught over 125 games in nine different seasons. He was a great defensive asset
who held the opponent’s running game in check and was a fine handler of
pitchers. At the time of his retirement he held the record for most games
caught with 1550; most putouts as a catcher, 7430; the most caught stealing,
372; and was second in career assists with 590. He also contributed at the
plate, with 146 career home runs and 796 RBI. He finished second in MVP balloting
in 1968 and third in 1967, and was the first string catcher on the 1960 All
Decade team.
