Three days later the Gold Sox returned the favor as Andy Messersmith shut down the Cloverleaf hitters on a single hit. The only hit Messersmith permitted the Leafs was a double up the left center gap by Tony Oliva with one down in the fourth.
Finally, Jim Colburn of the Thunder held the hapless Legends batters to a lone hit on the 29th. Frank Robinson, Legends DH, grounded a double over the first base bag and beyond the reach of a diving Bob Watson leading off the eighth inning. Robinson came around to score on a pair of groundouts.

BATTER OF THE MONTH - APRIL

JOHNNY BENCH, GOLD SOX

Johnny Bench is off to an MVP start in April for the Gold Sox. For the first five weeks of the season Bench has put up truly gaudy numbers: .378 batting average on 42 for 111; .448 on base percentage; and a .766 slugging average. Bench has collected eleven doubles, a triple and ten homers, helping him to drive in 26 runs and score 23. He has also walked 13 times. Bench has also been tremendous behind the plate, fielding 1.000 with no passed balls and gunning down eight would be base stealers.

PITCHER OF THE MONTH - APRIL

NOLAN RYAN, DUST BUNNIES

The Dust Bunnies will be looking to resign Nolan Ryan after this season if he continues to pitch the way he has so far. Ryan has put up a 5-1 record in seven starts to date, Including three complete games and a pair of shutouts. He has tossed 57 innings, posting a 0.79 ERA and 0.86 WHIP. He has allowed only 26 hits and five earned runs all season while striking out 64 batters, including an overpowering 16K performance against the Knights in has most recent outing.
